The Backstory
The song, "Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer" was written in 1943 by Harold Adamson and Jimmy McHugh during World War II. It was inspired by real accounts of Allied bombers that returned from missions over Europe so badly damaged they were barely able to stay airborne. Crews would limp home with engines failing, wings torn, and fuselages riddled with holes — surviving, as the phrase suggests, on “a wing and a prayer.”
This is the inspiration for our Prayer Cards, with the acknowledgment that we cannot stay airborne, let alone make it "home", without the mighty hand of God in our lives. We are deeply dependent on Him, and prayer is our lifeline to His providencial work in our lives.
